Fall is the perfect opportunity to sit together and dive into fun craft projects as Thanksgiving approaches. For seniors, these activities can bring joy, connection, and a sense of accomplishment, but they may also come with challenges due to mobility or dexterity limitations. That’s why choosing simple, accessible crafts and offering a little extra support can make all the difference. With thoughtful planning, fall crafting becomes not just an activity, but a meaningful way to celebrate the season, spark creativity, and enjoy quality time together.

Below are 6 different senior-friendly Thanksgiving craft activities provided by South Port Senior Living that you can do with friends or family to get your house fall-ready!

Craft 1: The Thankful Centerpiece
Collect long branches from your garden or pick some up at a craft store.

Cut or punch leaf shapes from card stock in warm fall shades like gold, yellow, red, and brown, and add a small hole on top to each with a hole punch.

Arrange the branches in a tall container or vase.

Invite guests to choose a leaf and write what they’re thankful for, then tie their leaf to the branches with a bit of twine.

Craft 2: Pumpkin Centerpiece
Cut off the top quarter of a small pumpkin and scoop out the inside.

Add floral foam, then fill the pumpkin with an a variety of fall-colored flowers.

You can set the pumpkin on a stack of two or three wood rounds (found at most craft stores) and surround it with acorns, squash, oak leaves, and other seasonal accents or you can leave the pumpkin as is and place it on a table!

Craft 3: Pumpkin Place Cards
This one is fun for those who are hosting!

Visit a craft store and get small pumpkins with stems.

Cut or punch leaf shapes out of card stock in fall colors, adding a small hole at one end. Add your guest’s name to the leaf and tie it to the pumpkin stem. You can even paint the pumpkins to match any other decor you may have.

Craft 4: Watercolor Speckled Leaves
Draw leaf shapes in different sizes on coffee filters, then paint them with watercolors, covering each shape completely.

Play with the amount of water to create bold or soft tones. Once the base layer is done, use an old toothbrush to flick speckles of paint over the leaves.

Let the filters dry fully, then cut out your leaf shapes and place the around the homes for added decor.

Craft 5: Leaf Bowl
This craft is one you may need help with, but it’s a fun one!

Gather a large balloon, artificial fall leaves (or dry ones from the yard), and Mod Podge – which you can find at most craft stores.

Inflate the balloon and set it tied-end down in a bowl. If you don’t have a balloon, or can’t blow one up, you can cover the outside of a large bowl with plastic wrap to use as your mold.

Brush Mod Podge onto both sides of a leaf and press it onto the balloon or wrapped bowl, layering leaves until you’ve formed a full bowl shape. Let it dry completely. Then carefully deflate the balloon or gently peel the leaf bowl away from the mold.

Craft 6: Rustic Woodland Arrangement
As you go on walks, watch for fallen foliage, colorful leaves, and dried wildflowers.

Gather your findings and arrange them in a sturdy vase or tall container and place on the table for a centerpiece.
