According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/news\/press\/releases\/stress\/2023\/collective-trauma-recovery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent survey by apa.org<\/a>, about 1 in 10 seniors have rated their stress as high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stress in the elderly can stem from a variety of factors, including <strong>health issues<\/strong>, <strong>financial concerns<\/strong>, <strong>the loss of loved ones<\/strong>, or <strong>isolation<\/strong>. An accumulation of these stressors can take a heavy toll on the body, causing chronic physical health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure and weakening the immune system which can cause the body to become sick more often. Similarly, too much stress can also cause mental health issues like depression, anxiety and cognitive decline (memory loss, slower thinking).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let&#8217;s discuss. what causes stress? This often causes a lot of stress and makes the stress of it hard to manage, especially if you are someone living with multiple health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Common Stressor 2: Loneliness and Loss<\/strong><br>Whether it\u2019s retirement or losing a loved one, feeling lonely is more common as we age. Go on walks or do something to move your body<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Therapy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting together with a group of friends<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meditation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crafting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gardening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Painting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Stress and aging are often linked, but there are numerous ways to manage it effectively before it becomes a problem both physically and mentally. Try incorporating stress-reducing practices such as regular exercise, therapy, and engaging in hobbies such as gardening.
