The National Council on Aging

By Amy Blitchok Google

The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to advocating for older Americans.  Since the council was founded in 1950, they have worked to implement nationwide programs that are focused on improving the health and financial security of older Americans.  While the council is headquartered in Washington DC, there are thousands of senior centers, employment services providers, and other organizations across the country who have partnered with the NCOA to help fulfill their mission, “To improve the lives of millions of older adults, especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.”  This means, that no matter where you live, there is a Council on Aging affiliate nearby that can help answer your questions about aging and help you locate available resources.

Over the past 60 years, the NCOA has been responsible for innovative programs like BenefitsCheckUp, Independent Choices, Foster Grandparents and many other initiatives.  They also work to spread information through their website and other publications like their journal Innovations.  The NCOA is an excellent resource for the latest information about aging and how you can enjoy your golden years.
